Safety and Burning instructions for candles
When using candles it is important to follow safety and burning instructions to prevent accidents and ensure optimal performance.
Safety instructions
1. Placement:
- Always place candles on a stable, heat resistant surface.
- Keep candles away from flammable materials like curtains, paper, clothing, etc.
- Avoid placing candles in drafty areas to prevent uneven burning and excessive dripping.
2. Supervison:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
3. Handeling:
- Use long matches or long-reach lighter to light candles.
- Do not move a burning candle; it can be hot and the wax can spill.
4. Extinguishing:
- Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame to avoid splattering the wax.
- Do not use water to extinguish a candle as it can cause hot wax to splatter.
Burning instructions
1. First burn:
- Allow candle to burn 3-4 hours on the first use, until the melted wax reaches the edges of the container. This can help prevent tunneling and ensure an even burn.
2. Wick maintenance:
- Trim wick to 1/4 inch before each burn to prevent excessive flickering and soot.
- Remove any wick trimmings or debris from the melted wax pool.
3. Burn time:
- Avoid burning candles for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent the container from over heating.
- Allow the candle to cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.
4. End of life:
- Discontinue use when about 1/2 inch wax remains at the bottom. Burning the candle until all the wax is consumed can cause the container to overheat and break.
Additional tips
- Double check before leaving: Always double check to make sure candles are completely extinguished before leaving the house or going to bed.
- Store properly: Store candles in a cool, dark, dry place to prevent them from warping or melting.
- Use candle accessories: Utilize accessories like wick trimmers, snuffers, and lids to prolong the life and quality of your candles.
